New Things Are Happening At HHYD!

See, I am doing a new thing!
Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the wilderness
and streams in the wasteland.

Spring Business Breakfast

Please take a look at our 12th annual Business Breakfast that took place on Thursday, May 16, 2024. Our theme was “CHANGES,” about which our new Executive Director, Charles Moses, delivered a powerful message. He shared stories of his challenging childhood and how Minnesota Adult and Teen Challenge helped turn his life around and gave him hope and a career that ultimately led him to HHYD. Charles also expressed his vision and desire for HHYD to grow beyond our current building and to serve more teens. We are now keeping the building open at night, and it has already drawn 97 young men to our ‘Hoops After Dark’ program, a safe and structured environment where they can develop their basketball skills, build relationships, and learn essential life lessons.

Two hundred ten (210) guests attended our breakfast event, and as of now, we have just over $170,000 in donations. THANK YOU! With a little more help from guests who took their pledge sheets home and others who couldn’t make the event, we believe we will reach our goal of $200,000.

To the Edina Country Club: Their gracious cooperation and service excellence always makes our guests feel welcome and well cared for.

To our Event Sponsors: Impact, Tradition Capital Bank, Ryan Companies, Cornwell Companies LLC, Green Wealth Management Corporation, SCHEELS, Genesis Trading LTD, Lotus Restaurant, Northeast Bank, and the Salvation Army.- We thank you for helping us kick this event off.

There is still a need for more donations to continue growing the ministry. Your support is crucial in helping us reach our vision of expanding beyond our current building and serving more teens. Please consider giving today.

In addition to having a wonderful Breakfast, we honored our Young Man and Young Women of the Year:

This is the vision Charles Moses, HHYD Executive Director spoke, of in his speech:

Charles’ vision comes to life in the evenings at HHYD: our young men know the power of prayer. What HHYD continues to do to keep our young men safe and off the streets of North Minneapolis – HOOPS after DARK! We are here to normalize this image of our youth on the Northside!

Church Spotlight

A group of River Valley Church folk came down to Hospitality House Youth Development on May 5th and spent several hours cleaning, picking up, organizing our grounds and building. They were the most delightful group (ever). I must also mention the exceptional leadership of our friend Rich Kerber, who guided the group with such skill and dedication.

We’ve been trying to clean up a rather nasty mess left on our property by someone, and it wasn’t until the energy brought by River Valley members were we able to complete it (Power of the Holy Spirit?). Anyway, we were greatly blessed and encouraged by River Valley Church and your members. Thank you for helping this Northside Minneapolis Christian youth organization.

Board Spotlight

Hello, my name is Randy McKinney. I have served on the board of directors at Hospitality House Youth Development since 2016. I’m an alumni of Hospitality House. Back in the day, we called it the club. My experiences at Hospitality House have been numerous. I have great memories and have created lifelong relationships; I’ve learned so many life lessons from this organization. I sit on the board to give back to this organization and my neighborhood.

Who is Randy McKinney?

I’m a man who submits himself to God. I humble myself before God. I reference Him; I choose to put Him first in my life. I take time to be still and listen to the voice of the Holy Spirit. I do my best to honor Daddy God. I say Daddy God because he’s not just God to me; he’s my father, my Daddy, with whom I have a personal relationship daily. I draw my strength from Daddy, and I try to model my life after Jesus.

I’ve been self-employed and a business owner since 1979. I have been involved in several of my own businesses and partnerships with others. I’m currently involved in a startup called the Twin Cities Ticket coupon app. We showcase businesses on our app to drive foot traffic to their doors. I also have a nonprofit, and one of the phases of the nonprofit is called “The Success Center,” where I teach.

  • Personal development around goal setting,
  • The mindset of being an Entrepreneur
  • One-on-one coaching
  • Seeding your future showing people how to become givers.

The Success Center has partnered with HHYD since 2013.

You want to know who Randy McKinney is, I’m a man who chooses to do his best to be loving, kind, thoughtful and considerate. I’m striving to be God’s hand extended and mouthpiece. I do my best to represent the Kingdom of God well.
